Zosterops is a genus of birds in the White-eye family Zosteropidae

Zosterops are widely distrybuted throughout Africa and Asia, with 85 (based on David Alderton; You and Your Pet Bird) recognised species of these small softbills.

In Malaysia and many country near this region, it is called 'Mata Puteh' which mean white eye. this is because of the white ring at their eye. Many people like to keep this Mata puteh for their song. However, only male will have beautiful song, female will not have beautiful song.

In Asian region, Mata puteh is kept in cage for their songs and there are lots of competition held for this small bird.

In Malaysia mata puteh is widely distributed across the peninsula malaysia. however, since their size is small, not many people will realised them.

This genus contains with 73 the highest number of species in that family. They occur in the Afrotropic ecoregion, the Indomalaya zone, and the Australasia ecozone. They can reach a length between 8 and 15 cm. Their most characteric feature is the conspicious white feather ring around the eyes.
